Word classes in
Catalan are as follows
Lexical words: those having a ‘dictionary meaning’. Any language
can enlarge its list of them; that is why they are considered an open class.
Functional words: they may have some meaning or not; anyway they
belong to the background of the language and it quite rare that new words enter
this category; that is why they are considered a closed class.
