PHONEME /b/

1. Most of the Catalan language spoken in Catalonia makes no difference between /b/ and /v/, but the difference is held in Valencia and the Balearic Islands, though not everybody makes such a distinction.

2. Therefore, for many speakers there is no difference between /b/ and /v/, they just pronounce /b/. That is why in a large part of the Catalan-speaking territory <b> and <v> just represent one phoneme: /b/
sabó, bo, bé,
club, àrab
voler, vi, cantava, cavall, vedell

3. In final position the spelling <-v> cannot be found, but it is possible <-b>, which is then pronounced /p/ (see DEVOICING)
