SPELLING 'G'


1. The consonant <g> sounds /g/ in the following cases:
  
- before the vowels <a>, <o>, <u>
Sagaç, gosar, agut. etc.
  
- before any consonant consonant
Gran, glàndula, etc.

2. In final position it sounds /k/ before /a/, /e/, /o/, /u/
Mag, pròleg, ginecòleg,  etc.

3. The consonant <g> sounds /ž/ before the vowels <e>, <i>
Gent, gegant, gimnàs, etc.

4. La consonant <g> sona /tš/ en la combinació final <-ig> (see also)
Lleig, puig, roig,

5. Therefore, with <g> it is possible to make up the phonic series of /g/, but by means of diagraphs in certain cases: <gue>, <gui>:
ga, gue, gui, go, gu

6. In order to set the series of /ž/, it is necessary to use the consonant <j> in certain cases:
ja, ge/je, gi/ji, jo, ju

7. For the diphthongs /gwe/, /gwi/, Catalan uses dieresis (¨):
Aigües, pingüí, etc.
